My name is Ernest Ionescu. They called me The Professor in 1989. My listeners in that room #7 were all escapees from Romania into former Yugoslavia.

The Danube swimmers, like me, were named by Serbians the “Pelicans”, and the “Rabbits" were the terrestrial illegal border crossers.

We were waiting for the rare chance of an interview with United Nations Organization inspectors to be qualified for refugee status and later for asylum into a democratic country.

The stress induced by inside provocateurs or the interview outcome and being in an overcrowded environment, all created extreme situations for us.
